Remove Love Bugs from Your Car

love bugs on a car

Everyone in Southwest Florida is anxious to welcome cooler weather: everyone, including love bugs. You may have already seen a few flying around, looking harmless, but you know the truth. Love bugs splattered on your car are terrible to clean up.

But did you know that there are products you probably already have on hand that can make removing love bugs from your car simpler? Check out these ideas!

Dryer Sheets

The trick to using dryer sheets to remove love bugs from your car is to soak your car with water first. Hose it down, let it sit for a few moments, and then use dryer sheets to wipe them away.

Baking Soda and Water

Pour a foamy mixture of baking soda and warm water over the splattered love bugs and watch them fizz away. If you have young kids at home, they might really enjoy this experiment. And hey, who wouldn’t love to get the kids involved in cleaning the car?

Baby Oil

Speaking of kids, if you have little ones at home, you also might have some baby oil. Don’t go crazy with this though. A little oil goes a long way! Rub the oil on and then wipe the bugs away with a soft towel.

Dish Soap and Glass Cleaner

Many longtime Southwest Florida residents insist this solution is as good as a magic potion. Mix Dish soap and glass cleaner and lather it on your car. Rub with a sponge and rinse clean.

If you have a can of WD-40 in your garage, you’re in luck! Spray WD-40 over the bugs and let it set for 5 minutes. WD-40 will soften the bugs and make them easier to wipe away.
